On Day One of 21 Days to Becoming Your Best Self (actually I think this is supposed to be day 2 so that means we will have to play catch up) you should take an inventory of where you are today when it comes to your spirituality. By your spirituality, I mean your relationship with God. Do you know God? Does God know you? Are you and God on a first name basis? Are the two of you even on speaking terms? Matter of fact do you even believe in God?
When it comes to my spirituality I believe everything begins and ends with GOD. I truly believe that there is a GOD that created this universe and whatever other universes that exist. I believe that GOD is the author and finisher of my life and the lives of others and until we acknowledge GOD and GOD's will for our lives, we will never become OUR BEST SPIRITUAL SELF or OUR BEST SELF for that matter.
Thus we must first establish a relationship with GOD. I can not tell you the "best way" for establishing a relationship with GOD because there is no "one right way" for doing this. What I can tell you is that I established my relationship with GOD by going to church, listening to the choir sing, preachers preach sermons, reading the Bible, (For me the version doesn't matter.), prayer and meditation.
It didn't take long before I began hearing from God and God began hearing from me and thus began our relationship. I have not always been faithful in my relationship with God as I have oftentimes strayed away from it, replacing it with things, people, and activities (some which I should have been doing in conjunction with my relationship with GOD and others I shouldn't have been doing at all). But what I have realized is that GOD is faithful and just and when I was ready to return to our relationship. GOD was waiting with open arms. So today and every day let's begin with GOD.
Let us pray: "GOD I have not always been faithful in my relationship with you and I have not always walked in your will. But today and for the next 19 days, I want to commit to improving my relationship with you through daily devotion, weekly bible study, prayer, praise and worship. I am committed to giving you my time, my talents, my tithes, offerings, and most importantly my life so that You can use me as your see fit and I can be in Your Will and Service. Forgive me of all of my sins and blot out all of my transgressions for Your name's sake. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I can be taught, fed and led by You and I will be ever careful to give your name the praise. It is in Jesus' name I pray and consider everything done. Amen."
