21 Days to Becoming Your Best Spiritual Self: Day 5

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida not too long ago a man was sent to the hospital after a turtle hit him on his head while he was taking a drive in his convertible.  "Officers on the scene surmised that a sea gull had apparently snatched a turtle from the ground, begun its flight, found that the turtle was too heavy to hold onto, lost its grip, and dropped the turtle, causing the accident" (Harrison, B., 1997, p. 19).

According to Bob Harrison, author of Power Points for Success: 101 Electrifying Stories from TODAY'S HEADLINES to Empower Your Dreams and Brighten Your Day, the book this story was taken from, "The Problem this bird encountered is a problem achievers oftentimes encounter. They are so good at doing so many things that they attempt to do too much. Oftentimes the weight of it all becomes more than they can handle, they lose their grip on their time, their health and their priorities."  And then everything seems to come crashing down on us.

As individuals who wish to Become Their "Best Spiritual Self", it is important that we realize what we can and can not handle. Though the sea gull needed food, perhaps the turtle was not the best candidate if the sea gull planned on flying home with it.  In like fashion,we need spiritual food.  That doesn't mean that we need to be at the church 24/7 or that we need to be part of every ministry or committee at the church.  What it means is that we need to get the "right" amount of spiritual nourishment so that we won't be so heavenly minded, we're no earthly good.

Hence, on Day 5 of 21 Days to Becoming Your Best Self and more specifically Your Best Spiritual Self, ask yourself, "Am I taking on more than I can handle at the church?" "Are there some areas that I need to step back from so that I can be a more effective worker?  In addition, "is God calling me to minister in different ways?"
